Feels Like Home
A while ago I noted mentally that I had once again, roughly a year later, entered a phase of reading fiction instead of philosophy. It seemed a pretty natural cure for academic burnout at the time. Only later did it occur to me that the first time around this was instigated by my finishing the second of two 80-page projects. Also, back then it lasted about a week in which I read half a dozen books that had been accumulating on my shelf.
Now, looking back on the past four months of reading almost nothing academic in nature, I have to say it feels damn good to be flipping back and forth reading end notes once again.

And before too long, I'll actually post about what those books with endnotes are!

God, I hate endnotes. Footnotes are so vastly superior that it's ridiculous that people still use endnotes.

I tend to side with the people who argue that they serve different purposes. Sometimes you want a text to read more fluidly so that the notes are something you feel is there for a reference, giving you the option of following up, but isn't required reading as part of the text. Footnotes are much more demanding of your immediate attention. More often than not, I just use footnotes, but I can see reasons for choosing endnotes.
