Back in the Groove
I don't know why I never realized it before, but playing music is awesome. Recently, I've taken to end a night of classes and studying by slipping into the music building, holing myself up in a practice room and playing my violin until someone kicks me out. Needless to say, I think I'm becoming a familiar face to the security guards. This new hobby has led to some interesting discoveries:
- Long after your ability to read (or at least read philosophy) runs out, you can still play an instrument (and it's fun, too!)
- Surprisingly, I haven't lost everything I learned in the 10 or so years I was playing regularly. In fact, when I try, I can sound half decent
This was an idea I had been kicking around for some time before I finally summoned up the will to actually go and do it, which is probably a sign that before now, my life lacked balance. Now I just need to figure out how I'm going to factor a whole new activity into my already hectic schedule. I guess I don't really need to sleep 6 hours a night . . .
