If You're Slash

So ... what is the deal with this new sales campaign from Volkswagen? Free guitar with every car? Guitar lessons from "legendary guiarist Dweezil Zappa"? Is "wannabe rock star" really that big of a demographic?

Whatever, I think it's awesome, even if it doesn't make sense. And I can't wait for the Nigel Tufnel ad.

"Traffic jam" har-har

I'm not sure I like this. I'd say that they should team up with a better guitar company, but then I'd probably dislike it for other reasons.

Here's why I like it: I can imagine the meeting where the idea came up went like this:

"So... has anyone got any novel ideas for a campaign?"
[Few minutes of silence.]
"What if we gave out a guitar with every car, and got Dweezil Zappa to record some 'guitar lessons' for a website."
"That's retarded. Who is going to buy a car because of that?"
"Look, man, it's that or we do 'Employee Pricing' again."
[Few minutes of silence.]
"Yeah, ok. Get Slash's people on the phone."

aha.

Ok, I like it now. If only for the fact that after hearing the proposal, it's possible that the middle-aged marketing exec's first thought was

"Slash!"
