Pictures of Maine
Here are some pictures from our trip to Maine a few weeks ago. I wrote the gallery program from scratch as a way to play around with Ruby and Rails. It (like my Ruby code) is still pretty rough around the edges, so expect it to break. Also, I don't have a Rails-ready host at the moment, so I'm serving it off of the box in my bedroom. This means two things: 1) it will be slow, and 2) my box will get hacked and by someone more 1337 than me.
In the meantime, please enjoy.

what preview did was add info in the resource fork (i think) saying to display the (unchanged) file rotated 90°. other image display programs don't heed this info. when i downloaded the image straight to my mac however, it does open with the correct orientation in preview. i wonder if Save As... would write a new file with the correct orientation...

There is no greater friend to the rarely-updated blog than the RSS aggregator.
Anyway, I figured it was some sort of metadata or markup the interpretation of which was considered optional by other image clients. I assume that this is used to make some simple transformations very quickly? I guess it's a useful feature, if it works on your software, but I was sort of annoyed that it didn't work as I expected.
Anyway, 'convert foo.jpg -rotate 90 bar.jpg' only takes a second, so it's no big deal.

Is it at all possible to say or hear "Please enjoy" without hearing that Beck song "Hell Yes"?

Oh. Hah. Yeah, the power went off last night and I forgot to start Apache when I booted the machine this morning.
